چکیده

A quasi-three-dimensional finite element method of analysis is proposed for the dynamic response analysis of pile foundations that is computationally feasible for practical applications. The method uses a simplified three-dimensional wave equation for describing the dynamic response of the soil. The response of the pile foundation is computed directly without having to use pile–soil–pile interaction factors. The quasi-three-dimensional solution greatly reduces the computational time for the direct analysis of pile groups. The method is presented here for an elastic response so that it can be validated against existing more exact elastic solutions and low-amplitude field vibration tests. The method is extended to nonlinear dynamic response analysis in an accompanying paper.

Three-dimensional Finite Element Modelling of Dynamic Pile–soil–pile Interaction in Time Domain

Dynamic analysis of embedded foundations like pile groups have received considerable attention in the past. Most existing approaches are established in the frequency domain, not allowing the simulation of material and geometric nonlinearities. In this paper, transient analyses are conducted to calculate the impedance of piles and pile groups, using a full three-dimensional numerical model for b...

A comparative study on pile group and piled raft foundations (PRF) behavior under seismic loading

Study on the seismic behavior of piled rafts and pile groups while the same amount of construction material and excavation is used in their construction, are the main objective of this research. The process where the raft interaction with soil can affect the seismic response and stress distribution is also discussed in the current study. By means, ABAQUS software was applied for the finite elem...

Free and Forced Transverse Vibration Analysis of Moderately Thick Orthotropic Plates Using Spectral Finite Element Method

In the present study, a spectral finite element method is developed for free and forced transverse vibration of Levy-type moderately thick rectangular orthotropic plates based on first-order shear deformation theory. Levy solution assumption was used to convert the two-dimensional problem into a one-dimensional problem. In the first step, the governing out-of-plane differential equations are tr...

Analysis of non-connected piled raft foundations (NCPRF) with cushion by finite element method

For the optimum design of Piled Raft Foundations (PRF), the concept of settlement reducer piles has been applied. However, when these piles are connected to the raft, a high stress may develop in the relatively small number of piles. Therefore, an alternative approach is to disconnect the piles from the raft forming a new system called a non-connected or disconnected piled-raft foundation (NCPR...

Updating finite element model using frequency domain decomposition method and bees algorithm

The following study deals with the updating the finite element model of structures using the operational modal analysis. The updating process uses an evolutionary optimization algorithm, namely bees algorithm which applies instinctive behavior of honeybees for finding food sources. To determine the uncertain updated parameters such as geometry and material properties of the structure, local and...
